My favorite singer is ... actually I haven't got a favorite singer, but one of the singers I really love is Anna German.

«I've never had a problem finding my own style of performance.   I am ashamed to say, but I've never studied singing, or, maybe not ashamed, because I have got another profession. And still I didn't idle my time away…» - said Anna Herman.

That's what I've learned about Anna German:

• Some interesting facts from her childhood.

Anna German was born on Valentine's Day. She was named in honor of her grandmother and in the Mennonite tradition she was given a middle name Wiktoria.

Her life was very difficult and full of tragedies. Anna's father was executed when she was about two years old. A few years later her younger brother Frederik died of scarlet fever. Drifting from place to place, starving all the time Anna rarely saw her mother who had to work all the time to provide for her daughter and mother.

Later Irma, Anna's mother, recalled,  «Every time seeing me off to work, Anna climbed a high cart and sang in a thin, almost transparent voice 'We will part with you at the door, and perhaps forever ...' »

She had a remarkable ability for learning foreign languages. In just ten years, Anna perfectly learned to speak not only Polish, but also Italian, English, French, and even a little Mongolian.

• What music did she like?

Anna admired melodiousness of Italians; she was convinced that in Italy there were no musically untalented people.

• Was she single/married?

On 23 March 1972  Anna German married the love of her life Zbigniew Tucholski. Their son, Zbigniew, was born on 27 November 1975.

• What was her favourite style or clothes?

Having received the proposal from the Italian record company «CDI» for a three-year contract Anna came to Milan. Of the clothes she had only a few of her custom-made dresses.A visit to 

the fashion houses in Italy was a rather negative experience. She had to find a cocktail dress, a seemingly simple task. But the trouble was that all the proposed outfits were of a mid-thigh length. For Anna, constantly suffering because of her height (she was 184 cm (72.4 in) tall), it was too bold. She preferred floor-length dresses.
