gerund

She went on sleeping as the sun crept up. - Вона продовжувала спати поки сонце піднімалося.

 to-infinitive

After introducing her proposal she went on to explain the benefits for the company. - Після винесення на розгляд своєї пропозиції, вона перейшла до пояснення переваг для компанії.

Gerund (Ving) - continue doing smth.; do the same

1. The teacher told everyone to be quiet, but they just went on talking. - Учитель звелів всім замовчати, але вони просто продовжили говорити.
   
2. He went on speaking for two hours. - Він продовжував говорити протягом двох годин.
3. I can't go on working like this - I'm exhausted. - Я не можу продовжувати так працювати - я виснажена.

to-infinitive - do smth. else

1. The teacher introduced herself and went on to explain about the course.  - Учитель представилася  і перейшла до пояснення про курс.
2. John Smith worked in local government for five years, then went on to become a Member of Parliament. - Джон Сміт працював в органах місцевого самоврядування п'ять років, потім він перейшов на посаду члена парламенту.
3. The director went on to say that the strike was over. - Директор перейшов до повідомлення про те, що страйк закінчено.
